Madonna's relentless bid to adopt four-year-old Mercy James from an orphanage in Malawi is reportedly set to be approved by three Supreme Court of Appeal judges.

The singer's initial attempt was rejected in March. However, two appeal judges have already submitted reports recommending she be granted custody, and the third is said to be "in complete unison with them," according to Britain's The Sun newspaper.

The official ruling is set to be announced in court in the east African nation's capital Lilongwe on Sunday.

Is there a link between Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's hold on political power inside Italy and his hold over the wider scandal-craved collective imagination of our contemporary culture? Clues to that question may be found in a series of blurry photographs that have wound up on the front page of the respected Spanish daily El País.

The five photos show scenes of poolside nudity and seminudity inside the walls of the Prime Minister's private villa on the island of Sardinia, as well as images of a (fully clothed) Berlusconi walking in the company of several different women. Though all faces but the 72-year-old leader's are pixelated, the images in themselves show nothing scandalous; the scenes are no different from those one might see in countless other private villas around the Mediterranean.

Yeah, we know all about the Mediterranean and what comes with the territory, but when your wife is about to leave you, now is the time to adopt a new fuckin' attitude.

Last week, Berlusconi's lawyers succeeded in blocking publication of the photographs in Italy, arguing before a judge that publication of the photographs would constitute an invasion of privacy. That's where El País stepped in. The Spanish daily is one of several European newspapers — citing the control the PM has over large swaths of the Italian media — trying to keep the heat on Berlusconi.

And this is the reason why the Italians are forever stereotyped as still being mafia-based.

Michelle Obama and her two daughters paid a surprise visit to the Eiffel Tower on Friday night, delighting tourists and doubtless the presidential couple's two girls.

The first lady, 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha spent about 45 minutes at the Parisian icon as President Barack Obama was arriving in France. It was the girls' first excursion abroad as daughters of an American president.

Carla Bruni is probably shaking in her Prada heels, scared that her reign as best-dressed wife of a diplomat may be over.

Fret not, Carla. This is only a va-cay. Your spot is safe...at least in Europe.
