Samuel L. Jackson = Hardest Working Man in Hollywood

Marvel Entertainment has secured Samuel L. Jackson via an unprecedented nine-picture deal to reprise the character of Nick Fury in a series of films for the studio, beginning with next year's release of "Iron Man 2."

According to Variety, the actor will also suit up as Fury, agent of spy outfit S.H.I.E.L.D., in the upcoming films "Thor," "Captain America," "The Avengers" and their sequels. Also on the table is the possibility of starring in a "S.H.I.E.L.D." movie, which is in development.


Jackson made a surprise appearance as Fury at the end of the first "Iron Man," throwing die-hard fans into a tizzy and showing the first glimpse of Marvel's plan to link all their slate of movies into one filmic universe.

Jackson and Fury were expected to be part of the sequel, but as Marvel negotiated with its cast, deals proved hard to come by. Terrence Howard was replaced by Don Cheadle. Mickey Rourke still doesn't have a deal for the part of a villain despite almost two months of negotiations, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Whitney Houston is reportedly going public with her support of Rihanna, urging her not to reconcile with Chris Brown following an alleged fight between them that left her with cuts and bruises.


Houston, who ended her turbulent marriage to Bobby Brown in 2007, is advising the 21-year-old to end the troubled romance for good.

"Don’t make the same mistakes I did. Whenever you let your heart rule your head, you are bound to run into trouble,” Houston said in a statement to Hollyscoop.com.

Houston and Bobby Brown split in 2006 and endured a messy divorce and custody battle over their teenage daughter Bobbi Kristina. Brown was subsequently forced to deny rumors of domestic abuse within their relationship, insisting that although the former couple was prone to heated arguments, their fights never turned physical.

Drew Barrymore, Directrix?

As Summit Entertainment looks to lock in a director for the third installment of the Twilight series, Eclipse, the company is talking to a select group of directors -- including actress-turned-helmer Drew Barrymore, EW has learned. While this news may come as a surprise to some, Barrymore did just finish work on her directorial debut, Whip It! starring Ellen Page. Neither Summit nor Barrymore's reps would comment for this story.

Nicole Richie Knocked Up Again

Nicole Richie and her boyfriend Joel Madden are expecting baby No. 2, according to an announcement on the Web site of Madden's band Good Charlotte.


"What's better than winning an Oscar? I am so happy to tell everyone that Harlow is going to be a big sister!" Madden wrote in the posting. "God has truly blessed my family. Hope you're all feeling as good as I am right now."


The couple welcomed daughter Harlow on January 11, 2008. Richie, 27, and Madden, 29, have been together since December 2006.

Tranny Wins Box Office

Tyler Perry's "Madea Goes to Jail" dominated the weekend box office, opening with $41.1 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

It was the highest grossing film ever for both Perry and the film's studio, Lionsgate, reports the Associated Press. Perry's previous opening record was $30 million for 2005's "Diary of a Mad Black Woman."

Steve Rothenberg, president of distribution at Lionsgate said the debut of "Madea" was the studio's best opening in its 14-year history. The studio's previous top opening was the $33.6 million debut of 2006's "Saw III."

"You could argue that Madea is now the top female box office star in Hollywood," said Rothenberg, whose studio has distributed all seven of Perry's films, several of which were released straight to DVD. "The character is one of the great screen creations of the last decade."
