Jay-Z & The Big 4-0!

The music mogul celebrated his 40th birthday in style last week – thanks to his wife, Beyoncé.

The Grammy-nominated singer planned a star-studded surprise party for her hubby and invited 50 of his closest pals, including Diddy, Kate Hudson, A-Rod, Kanye West and Alicia Keys.

DJ Cassidy spun tunes at the bash held at the Casa de Campo resort in the Dominican Republic. The party, which had a 1940s theme, included a fireworks show and two dance floors.

At the fete, Jay-Z and Keys sang an impromptu version of their hit song, "Empire State of Mind," and West gave a toast to his friend, the birthday boy.

It’s not an official breakup, but Rihanna and Chris Brown are taking some time off from their controversial relationship.

“They’re taking a break,” a source told Us Weekly. “Jay-Z told Rihanna she needs to cut things out with Chris, at least in public.”

Whatever is going on behind closed doors, Rihanna is putting on a good public show of recovery. On March 18, the singer texted Katy Perry and partied with her and Hayden Panettiere at Hollywood hotspot Les Deux, Us Weekly reports.

The public may have no desire to see Brown, who said to be hiding out in a house in Montpelier, Va., although he recently emerged to buy 14 baseball caps at a local Lids store.

“He said, ‘It’s not what it seems’ about the Rihanna situation,” salesperson Shavon Bradshaw told Us Weekly.

Brown was due to appear at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards this Saturday, but took his name out of the running after charges were filed against him in his alleged Feb. 8 assault of Rihanna.

No, hurricane Ike did not catch Beyonce or her weave, but it's still trying!!

Hidden away filming movie roles (Yeah, we don't know how she keeps getting offers either), Beyonce is set to return to the limelight with a new album, because you know....that's the only way to generate publicity for her characters on the big screen.


The R&B star whose album is due in November donned a full police uniform with a taser and handcuffs in tow for "If I Were A Boy" which is being shot this week by famed director Jake Nava who worked with the two singles on October 7th including "If I Were A Boy" and "Single Ladies."

The "Obession" star's album is due in stores November 18th via Music World/Columbia.

Solange carried her baby longer!!

Less than nine months after opening the Vegas version of his 40/40 Club in The Palazzo, Jay-Z has sold the joint for an undisclosed amount.

There have been reports of problems since the place opened in January 2008. It struggled to open for New Year's Eve after reportedly failing inspection.

Disgruntled employees who were fired or resigned also complained to local media shortly after its opening.

The space will reportedly be turned into a sports bar by the hotel. But Jay's not down for the count yet. He still plans to open 40/40 Clubs in Chicago, Tokyo and Macau.


Nice to know Solange will be able to get tips somewhere.
