Time To Make Set It Off Required Viewing At Oprah's School

For the second time in two years, allegations of sexual abuse have plagued Oprah Winfrey's school for girls in South Africa.

According to local newspaper "Afrikaans on Sunday," seven students were suspended last week for sexually harassing their schoolmates.

One 15-year-old was accused of preying on another student and forcing other girls to lie to investigators about it, the paper reported. Other girls were said to be caught fondling each other or trying to get other girls to join them in sexual activity.

A letter sent to one of the suspended girls' parents reportedly read, "You have been found guilty of physical contact of a sexual nature with another pupil on campus, harassment, bullying other girls on campus and of being dishonest by not telling investigators the whole truth."

Oprah's spokesperson, Lisa Halliday, confirmed the girls had been suspended from the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy School for Girls - but gave few details. "It is because they contravened the school's code of conduct," she said. "We regard the incident as confidential."

Winfrey opened the school in 2007, calling it the proudest day of her life. About 10 months later, 15 girls reported they had been sexually abused by a matron, Virginia Tiny Mokgobo, 27. She denies the charges and is due back in court on June 1.

Three television shows will take on the issue of relationship violence today in the wake of pop star Rihanna's alleged beating by singer/boyfriend Chris Brown.


BET presents a live "106 & Park" at 6 p.m. devoted entirely to domestic violence currently affecting teen couples. The show will gather a panel of experts, industry insiders, victims, perpetrators and survivors to carefully examine the impact of domestic violence among our youth and provide tips on breaking the cycle of abuse.



Meanwhile, Tyra Banks will devote today's episode of her talk show to the topic, and will share her own experience of dating a man who emotionally abused her.


Banks says the man chipped away at her, trying to break her down so he could be in control. One day, she woke up and decided to end the relationship because "when you're done, you know you're done."


Banks will also be a guest on today's live edition of "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which Winfrey has dedicated to dating violence in response to the alleged assault of Rihanna.

Oprah Is Gonna Kill the Illinois Governor Now...

Oprah Winfrey was surprised by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s revelation Monday morning that he considered appointing the talk-show host to President Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat — a job she does not want.

On Monday, during a visit to ABC’s “Good Morning America” to defend his innocence in connection with accusations that he tried to auction off Obama’s Senate seat, Blagojevich said he thought Winfrey would make a good replacement. He faces an impeachment trial Monday.

“She seemed to be someone who had helped Barack Obama in a significant way to become president,” Blagojevich said. “She was obviously someone with a bigger bully pulpit than other senators. She probably wouldn’t take it.”

When asked by King if she would consider the seat, Winfrey made her answer a definitive one.

“Absolutely not,” she said. “I would have said, ‘Where would I fit it in with my day job? My mid-day job, my night job, my radio job, my magazine job?’”

While she has no plans to enter into politics, Winfrey admitted she was sure she could fill the needs of such a post.

“I think I could be senator too,” Winfrey added. “I’m just not interested.”

Someone Said No To Oprah?!!

On Tuesday's episode of her daytime talk show, Oprah Winfrey revealed that she had asked to audition for a role in the film "Doubt," but was turned down by the director.

Winfrey told the movie's star Meryl Streep -- who appeared on the show via Skype -- that she asked to audition to play "Mrs. Miller" because she felt a connection to it and wanted to work with Streep. But she couldn't convince director John Patrick Shanley to give her a shot.

The role ended up going to Viola Davis. She received a Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe for her emotional five-minute scene in which Mrs. Miller breaks down after hearing her son may have been molested by a priest.

Winfrey has spoken out about being sexually abused as a child.

The talk show queen continues the honesty, saying in the January issue of “O” magazine out Tuesday that she now weighs 200 pounds and has “fallen off the wagon” when it comes to healthy living.

“I’m mad at myself,” Winfrey writes in an article provided early to The Associated Press by Harpo Productions.

“I’m embarrassed,” she writes. “I can’t believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I’m still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, ‘How did I let this happen again?”’

In the piece, Winfrey, 54, details her recent struggles with an out-of-balance thyroid and how the condition made her develop “a fear of working out.” She says she’s added 40 pounds to her frame since she weighed 160 pounds in 2006.

“Yes, you’re adding correctly; that means the dreaded 2-0-0,” Winfrey writes. “I was so frustrated I started eating whatever I wanted — and that’s never good.”

Oprah Sued!!!!

A Louisiana man has filed a lawsuit against Oprah Winfrey, claiming she and an attorney made false statements that led the FBI to arrest him on charges that he tried to extort the talk-show host.

Keifer Bonvillain, who had the charges dismissed, seeks damages of $180 million from Winfrey, her attorney and the FBI in the federal lawsuit filed Tuesday.

Bonvillain, of Houma, La., was arrested in December 2006 after he allegedly recorded telephone conversations with an employee of Winfrey's production company and told a company associate he wanted to publish a book based on the recordings. The FBI said he claimed to have offers from publishers and tabloids ranging from $500,000 to $3 million.

Oprah Winfrey has joined the voice cast of Walt Disney's animated "The Princess and the Frog," in the role of Eudora, the mother of the main character, Princess Tiana, voiced by Anika Noni Rose.


Set in the French Quarter of New Orleans, the film is Disney's first animated effort starring an African American princess. However, this isn't Winfrey's first time voicing an animated character.


Most recently, she played Judge Bumbleton in "Bee Movie," and she also provided dialogue for Gussy the Goose in the live-action "Charlotte's Web."


John Lasseter, the chief creative office at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, also announced that Randy Newman has written six new songs for "The Princess and the Frog." He appeared in person at the studio's presentation Wednesday to perform one of the tunes, "Down in New Orleans."


"The Princess and the Frog" is set for release in late 2009.

GOP WOMEN BOYCOTT OPRAH WINFREY: Palin followers upset over Winfrey's ban on candidates until after election.




The Florida Federation of Republican Women has launched a boycott against Oprah Winfrey’s TV show and magazine because of her refusal to book Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin until after the election.


Winfrey announced that no candidate running for president or vice president on either ticket would be invited to her program until after Nov. 4. Yet the 58-year-old federation, which has 4,500 members, says Winfrey should have Palin on her show now, given how important the Alaska governor’s run is for women.


“She is an icon, and set her herself up to be such a women’s rights and women’s issues person. To have the first vice president of our lifetime on the Republican ticket being a woman and to sit it out regardless of what her personal political beliefs were was disingenuous, we felt,” the group’s First Vice President Cindy Graves told “FOX & Friends” on Wednesday morning.


Graves, 50, says she used to watch “Oprah” and occasionally bought her magazine. She told FOXNews.com that the group has been joined by women all over the country since launching the boycott last Saturday.


Before Obama became a candidate, Winfrey had the Illinois senator on the show. She has endorsed the Democratic nominee's candidacy and has appeared with him on the campaign trail. She also was very visible at Obama’s nomination acceptance speech in Denver last month.
